How it works

The camera sits in the nursery and connects to the parent unit over its own encrypted 2.4GHz radio signal. Point it where you need it using the directional buttons on the parent unit. Pan left and right, tilt up and down, zoom in to check on a sleeping face. All from wherever you are, without going into the room. When the light drops, the infrared night vision activates on its own. When the baby makes a sound in VOX mode, the screen lights up. When the room goes outside the temperature range you have set, the parent unit alerts you.

In the real world

Most parents set this up on the first night and do not think about it again. The camera stays plugged in. The parent unit sits on the bedside table. You look at it when you want to and put it down when you don't. The screen can stay on all night or activate only on sound, depending on what works for you. The 5" IPS screen shows a clear colour picture during the day and a clean infrared image at night. The temperature sensor on the camera displays the nursery temperature at all times, switchable between °C and °F from the menu. Set a high and low threshold and the monitor alerts you if the room moves outside the safe range.

VOX mode activates the screen automatically when the baby makes a sound. Turn it off and the screen stays on continuously. Either way, audio keeps coming through even when the screen is dark.

Eight lullabies play through the camera speaker from the parent unit. Set up to five feeding reminders at intervals of 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, or 4 hours. Add a second camera later and monitor both rooms on the same screen.

Can it actually be hacked?

Will it work through the walls in my house?
